History

National History:

Alpha Chi Omega is a national women's organization that enriches the lives of our members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning, and service. Since our founding on October 15, 1885 at Depauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, we have been a society that encourages our members to "Seek the Heights," emphasizing the importance of being "Real. Strong. Women."

Our organization was made possible by Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Denison, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms, and Estelle Leonard. They founded Alpha Chi as the first and most likely last musical fraternity, thus naming the group ‘Alpha,’ meaning first, and ‘Omega,’ meaning last, using ‘Chi’ as a link.

Alpha Chi Omega was founded on the principles of academic interest, character, financial responsibility, leadership, and personal development. These principles still guide the policies and programs of the sorority today.

Chapter History:

The Kappa Rho chapter of Alpha Chi Omega was chartered at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on November 15, 2014. We have high hopes for expanding and improving our sorority every day.

At Kappa Rho we encourage our members to strive for excellence in the classroom, leadership on campus, and through their personal goals and endeavors. We are serious about helping our members reach their fullest potential and giving them the leadership skills needed to make their dreams a reality. Sisterhood means being surrounded by uplifting spirits, supporting individuals, and most importantly, love. We not only want our sisters to be successful, but we want them to leave their collegiate career with the skills and education necessary to make a difference in the lives of those around them in a positive, impactful way.
